Bali lies at the center of the world’s richest marine bio-geographical region. This Indo Pacific region runs from the Red Sea to the West Coast of South America. Smack in the center of this vast area is Indonesia where the Pacific meets the Indian Ocean. Biologists studying species distribution have placed the very epicenter of this marine richness in an area called the “ Magic Triangle”. Forming the corners of this biological marvel are the tip of the Southern Philippines to the north, Bali to the east and Western New Guinea. This region alone encompasses the richest diversity of marine fauna on the planet. Over eighty genera of coral and perhaps twenty five hundred species of fish ( … and still counting ) compare that to say the Caribbean with only twenty genera of coral and eight hundred types of fish .

North West Bali Island
Menjangan Island
Part of the West Bali National Park, Menjangan Island famous for wall-diving with easy conditions. The walls descend to varying depths, the shallowest being 26m, the deepest 60m+. The walls offer the greatest diversity of gorgonian fans in Bali. The walls are full of small nooks and crannies, overhangs, and bigger cavelettes, crevasses etc. They are covered with soft corals, gorgonian fans, sponges. They generally start at 10 am with the flat coral reefs offering gentle condition and lots of sunlight. These are full of medium and small fish.
Secret Bay
Secret Bay located in the front of the docking area of the Gilimanuk Harbor that connected Bali & Java, is paradise for “ unusual” and rare underwater creatures, which are small and well camouflaged between the sea grass the sand and some debris. Snack Eals, Sea Snakes, Cockatoo fish ,Juvenile of Rabbit Fishes, Flounders, varieties of Gobies, Frog Fishes Dragonets, Nudibranch, Sea Hares and many more. Underwater photographers dream of such critters. Gilimanuk Bay is the only bay of the narrow Bali strait, where currents can reach 7 knots, which means that Gilimanuk bay acts as a catch tank for many larva fish and other plankton sweeping along between Java and Bali. This is the reason why this bay offers a number of rare jewels for the macro photographer.
Pemuteran
Located 20 mins along the north coast the Labuan Lalang. Pemuteran is a small collection of resorts located on the beach. The diving here is on 500M wide coral-covered banks or mounds that go from the sand floor, at around 25M, up to about 6M from the surface. The top coral cover is mixture of hard, soft and fire corals with some sea fans and sponges deeper. No currents to speak of and visibility is usually good, but varies quite a bit due to shallowness ( wave action stirring up the bottom, run-off after rain)
North East Bali
Tulamben
Tulamben has four main dive sites ( the famous USS Liberty Wreck, the underwater wall drops to a depth of 60m Drop-off, the underwater plateau Batu Klebit, and the paradise reef Coral Garden ), however a combination of these offer a never ending opportunity to discover new “ cleaning stations” or rarely seen nudibranches or even bigger fish. Situated on the north east coast . the bay receive very plankton rich water from the major ocean current the moves from the Pacific to Indian Ocean or vice versa. The wreck rocky wall and black sand slopes provide a wide variety of physical habitats. All of this factors, combined together will explain why the Tulamben Bay are contains an incredible diversivication of the underwater ecosystem. Tulamben is a bay of striking contrast of ruggedness of hydrographic culture of rich bio diversity and tranquility. Here is where the fantasies of many divers dwell. Tulamben is ideal for wreck diving, deep diving and night diving.
Amed
From a landscape point of view, Amed is much prettier than Tulamben . You will see many rice field along the way, traditional salt-panning and also sandy beaches as opposed to Tulamben stony ones. There are two dive sites outside Jemeluk Bay, Amed Reef and Amed Wall and both of which can be done as a shore or boat dive. Due to the easy conditions at Amed it is suitable both for novice and experienced divers. There is very rarely and wave action at the surface.
Les Village Coral Framing Dive Site
The unique underwater eco tourism site, where people can participate in coral farming activity first hand while enjoy the easy access and rich biodiversity. You can make real contribution for The Nature Recovery or you can also dive in the protected area that is designated as the No-Catch Zone.
Bolot Reef
Dive sites is about 10 minutes by small wooden boat west of coral farming site, it offers beautiful reef to maximum depth of 30 m . Healthy coral coverage almost 99,9% as the result of the implementation Marine Protected Area and giant sponge dominated this area, lion fish, leaf fish and other colorful reef fish are many found here.
East Coast Bali
Padang Bai /Candidasa
Located 1.5 hour from Airport , for trips to Nusa Penida, Amed and also close to Tulamben. Just minutes by boat will have you submerged in clear calm waters of Blue Lagoon to Tanjung Sari, excellent place for both snorkeling and diving activities. Favorite place to find underwater unusual creatures. Island outside the bay such as Topekong , Mimpang and Biaha offer Bali most stunning diving with healthy coral and great diversity of fish. This site offers a shark cave, which is usually full of resting sharks and huge lobsters and can be thrilling current rides under certain condition. See them sleeping in beautiful cavern surrounded by lush corals. Drift along the coral drop offs looking out of morays, turtles, angle fish, giant trivially so much more.
Nusa Penida Island Groups
( Nusa Penida, Nusa Ceningan & Nusa Lembongan)
Located 45 minute boat from Sanur, Padang Bai and Tanjung Nusa Dua. These island blessed with many dives sites scattered around that offer thrilling drift diving, the best reef in Bali with gorgeous corals and prolific fish, and an awesome and unusual pelagic attraction including Mola Mola ( is the unique oceanic sunfish, a mysterious large flattened fish with elongated dorsal and vertical fins and a lumpy growth instead of a tail fin ) between July to November . Pelagic are the main attraction here and you have a good chance to see jacks, mackerel and tuna. Sharks are common and big mantas are frequently sighted.
The South
Sanur and Nusa Dua
The south is the tourist center of Bali and many travelers spend their trip in the triangle area ( Sanur, Kuta & Nusa Dua ). If you enjoy driving or to busy for 4 hours to Menjangan Island or 3 hours to Tulamben then you can consider there dive sites as an option. Ideal for beginner and experienced divers who seek adventure not far from civilization. Underwater world lies + 300 m off shore from famous Sanur and Nusa Dua, take a short ride with jukung or small boat. Good variety of fish, soft and hard corals. Sea snake, Crocodile fish and sharks are occasionally seen.
