KEHEN TEMPLE
Kehen Temple
The name “ kehen” is derived from “keren” or “kuren”,
meaning “family”. This beautiful temple itself was built during
later years, but there are several ancient implements and relics housed
there. One of them is a prasasti, bronze plate inscribed in the old Balinese
language, which records the road guide to this place. It is believed that
it was written in 1204 AD. The name of that place is found in that prasasti
too.
Bali houses Pura Kehen is located at the south of Bangli in Cempaga village.
It was built in the 12th century when Sri Batara Guru Sri Adikunti Ketana
ruled Bangli Kingdom. The temple has three courtyards connected by steps,
and is decorated with carvings and statues. Kehen Temple is the largest
and most sacret temple in bangli.
