Mountain Rinjani
Mountain Rinjani National Park
lies within a major bio-geographical transition zone ( Wallaceae),
where the flora and fauna of South East Asia meets taht of Australasia.
The National Park, on eof over 42 throughout Indonesia, was established
in 1997.
For the people of Lombok, Sasak
and Bali, mt Rinjani is reserved as a sacred place and abode of
deities. The Crater-Lake is a pilgrimage destination for tens of
thousands each year.
Pilgrims place offerings in the
water and bathe away ailmnts in the hot springs. For the visitors,
the three-day Rinjani Trek is a classic route starting from the
Rinjani Trek Centre in Semeru, climbing through beautiful rain forest
with unique flora and fauna, and spectacular scnerey. The trek ends
in Sembalun Lawang and includes Mountain Rinjani's craterrim, Lake
Segara Anak as well as the sacred hot springs. It is considered
one of the best treks in South East Asia. white the four-day is
for more adventurous trekkers, this route includeds Mountain Rinjani's
summit (3.726m)
The route starts from Rinjani Information
Centre in Sembalun Lawang and includes the crater rim, Lake Segara
Anak, sacred hot springs and caves before descending through the
forest to Semeru. with assistance from NZAID ( New Zealand Agency
for International Development) partners with the Gunung Rinjani
National Park authorities to devolop Ecotourism on Rinjani.
